Visit the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge protects the northern Everglades habitat and is home to a plethora of birds, including egrets, hawks, herons, ducks, and the endangered snail kite and wood stork. Also found here are turtles, alligators, and snakes such as the Florida cottonmouth and dusky pygmy rattlesnake. Explore the cypress swamp, butterfly garden, rent a canoe or kayak and paddle through waterlilies and grasses, and enjoy miles of hiking and biking trails. The visitor center features exhibits and knowledgeable docents. Join seasonal guided programs such as wildflower walks, tram tours, and full moon guided canoe trips.
