There are several wineries and tasting rooms along this route including Minassian-Young, a dry-farmed vineyard producing Rhone varietals and Zinfandel.
Heading east on Peachy Canyon Road you arrive at Nadeau Family Vintners, situated on a hillside in the Santa Lucia Mountains. Here a renovated barn has been turned into an efficient micro-winery. The vineyard is dry farmed with plantings of Zinfandel, Grenache Noir, and Petite Sirah. Visit the tasting room that is also their laboratory and watch the wine-making process first hand.
The next winery you will encounter is Calcareous Vineyard. The name might be a tongue twister, but it is named for the rocky limestone soil of the region that makes the grapes and wines special.
At Stacked Stone Cellars you will be only minutes from downtown Paso Robles, but still in the beautiful rolling hills. This family-owned winery offers award winning vintages for you to enjoy with your picnic under the ancient oaks on the property. Summer months brings outdoor concerts to the winery.
Another side road worth taking is a right turn off Peachy Canyon onto Willow Creek Road. This is a short pleasant drive that eventually comes to a fork in the road. Take the left side of the fork onto Las Tablas Willow Creek to Niderer Road and turn left. On this oak-lined road are two wineries worth visiting. At Pipestone Vineyards, the vineyard and winery are built according to the Chinese principles of feng shui. Enjoy Rhône-style wines from Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Viognier and a dry farmed Zinfandel from this charming winery that practices sustainable farming using draft horses, solar power and a zero-landfill policy.
Just above Pipestone, at the very end of the road is Dunning Vineyards Estate Winery where you can enjoy their selections amidst 100-year-old oak trees. Visitors are encouraged to take one of their educational tours, picnic or just revel in the spectacular scenery.
All along this road, watch out for the rambling mule deer and wild turkeys. Keep exploring other side roads as well, such as Township Road just south of Niderer and visit AJB-Berardo Vineyards. Here are all estate grown wines such as Viognier, Sangiovese, Syrah, and Nebbiolo offered in the cozy tasting room overlooking the vineyard.
